Registration Process
Step 1: Spread Awareness!
- Express your interest in participating in your school by email or DM us on Instagram. An HSDC representative will be in touch with further steps and our information pack!
- Distribute a copy of the HSDC Poster to the school’s website, newsletters, and platforms such as Compass.
- Announce the Competition during school and class assemblies or as a special PA announcement.
- HSDC offers free Bollywood workshops (in-person or via Zoom) for students conducted by our trained and qualified dance instructors at your school to encourage dance and give a brief introduction to HSDC. If you are interested send us an email for further details!
- Conduct auditions for the competition to select the students to be a part of your team or create a team with a group of interested friends!
Step 2: Registration
- Register your school by filling in the competition registration form linked on the pages below
- Allocate a responsible teacher or team leader (e.g., Arts/Drama Teacher/Parent in charge there should only be ONE point of contact from your school, and ensure you have permission from your school to participate!
- Form a competing group – ONLY students from Year 7 to Year 12 are eligible to participate.
- Registration of a school is FREE. Each participant needs to buy a participant token ($15 each) during the time of registration to confirm their place in the contesting team. Once paid the registration of the school is confirmed.
- Once you have successfully registered, each student will need a parent/guardian to sign the ‘Parental permission and Media consent form’. All students must complete this form before the group photo is submitted.
Forms are located at the end of the info pack. It is the responsibility of the team leader to get these forms signed and emailed to HSDC management. Those who do not complete these forms will not be eligible to participate in the competition.
Step 3: Preparation
- Send a group photo of participants for promotion on the HSDC website and Social Media pages. HSDC will also provide you with a copy your group’s personalized poster for you to post on your school’s social media or other media platforms. *Please try completing this step ASAP!
This will help to:
- Invite audience members to vote for your school
- Create awareness for all the amazing work your school does in the competition.
- Choreograph your piece! You can draw inspiration through YouTube videos and original ideas. Don’t forget to contact the HSDC team if you need any assistance!
- Create your music track for the dance and email (due 15/09/2024): team@highschooldancecompetition.com.au
Conditions of the music track: - Maximum of 5 minutes, minimum of 3 minutes.
- Must include at least 1 Bollywood song (minimum 30 seconds, other styles/languages of music are also permitted to be remixed in the track).
- Organise dance rehearsals – please ensure you adhere to any social distancing and COVID requirements within your school.
- Prepare a ballot box with your school’s name on it – this will be used during the voting period on the competition day and the most creative ballot box will also win a prize!
- Each participating group must try to sell a minimum of 30 tickets.
This will help maintain fairness in voting.
Step 4: Event Day – 12th October 2024, Hawthorn Arts Centre
- Each school must have a team manager (teacher/senior student/parent in charge) accompanying the competing group.
- There will be a strict reporting time as participants will be inducted. This will be communicated closer to the event day.
- Rehearsal time and space will be subject to availability.
- Each school will be assigned a team co-ordinator from the HSDC management team to assist with queries and further instructions will be given on the day.
This will include details regarding:
- Venue tour
- Greenroom or Dressing room facilities if available
- Competitor seating
- Performance times
- Competition day housekeeping and rules
- Stage and crew introduction
Competition Criteria:
- One entry per School – Minimum of 4 and maximum of 30 students
- Apply by filling in the application form linked in this info pack and an HSDC team member will be in touch!
- Music: At least 30-seconds of a Bollywood song.
- Song duration: A minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes
- All participants must be current secondary school students between Year 7 to Year 12 enrolled in a year level during 2024, at the participating high school.
