Rules and Terms of Participation

HSDC takes pride in presenting Australia’s first Bollywood Primary School Dance Competition.

Please read all HSDC rules carefully, as failure to comply could result in disqualification. Once your entry is received, it is understood that you have read these rules and conditions of the event.

The results are FINAL based on the judging panel score and audience voting. No teacher, parent, or student will question our judges or HSDC management concerning the results of any part of the competition.

  1. All participating students must be currently enrolled at the school and be able to present their current school ID for inspection.
  2. The school’s responsible teacher and/or parent is responsible for ensuring that only currently enrolled students (Yr 7 – Yr 12) are selected for participation. Failure to comply will result in the student automatically becoming ineligible to participate in the competition. The teacher in charge must sign the application form confirming that all participants are current students at the school.
  3. The performing group MUST provide performance music by the submission deadline (1st August 2023) via email to team@highschooldancecompetition.com.au. Late music submissions will not be accepted. If you need any help, please get in touch with our team ASAP so we can assess your situation.
  4. Teams are responsible for bringing in their music track on a CD/USBinMP3 format on the day.
  5. All dance routines must be appropriate for family viewing. If a judge or HSDC management feels that a routine or costume is too suggestive or inappropriate for our audience, the team may be disqualified, or have points deducted.
  6. Contestants will be responsible for preparing and removing all props, and a time limit of 45 seconds to set or break down props will apply. Any prop or set that is deemed unsafe will not be allowed on stage. If you litter on the stage, you are responsible for cleaning the stage area.
  7. Special lighting effects are subject to availability, please contact the team, and notify your requirements. There is no house curtain available on the stage.
  8. Participants must be ready to perform at the stated time in the official program. 5 points will be deducted if contestants do not perform in the scheduled sequence, you must be ready to perform at least 3 dance items before yours unless permission is granted by the stage manager.
  9. ONLY participants and HSDC crew members are allowed backstage or onstage – no audience members, family, friends, or school team supporters are permitted near the stage.
  10. All performers must be present at the awards presentation to receive their awards. No awards will be given at other times or mailed out.
  11. Flash photography or videography is strictly prohibited. We also strongly suggest audience members NOT video or photograph the performances as it may obstruct the stage view. HSDC management and event security reserve the right to confiscate any non-compliant equipment. Coordinators, please inform parents and students of this rule, as it may result in disqualification. Official performance videos will be released for public viewing post-competition. You may take photos of the awards presentations only.
  12. Entries can be registered by filling in the application form, which is linked below in the information pack. All participants are required to be current students of the participating high school or college and purchase participant tokens to be eligible to participate. Please note, that participant tokens are not eligible for a seat, so no seat will be allocated to the performers. Participants are eligible to vote.
  13. All students must have consent from parents, and this must be signed before the group photo is submitted. Students who do not have consent or media consent will not be eligible to participate in the competition.
  14. HSDC and management are not responsible for any property loss or injury to any persons participating in the event
  15. HSDC reserves the right to change the competition day, move the competition location or cancel the event in the case of unforeseen circumstances.
  16. HSDC reserves the right to refuse entry of participants or audience members.
  17. We do not tolerate parents, teachers, participants, family, or friends who conduct themselves unacceptably and offensively towards participants or our staff. This includes online etiquette – any evidence of cyberbullying or other inappropriate behaviour may result in severe consequences for the individual. 
  18. Using robots or fake accounts to increase likes, comments, or shares on social media will not be accepted and may result in disqualification.
  19. Any discrepancy in scores must be brought to the attention of HSDC management. Only school team managers will be permitted to approach the HSDC management concerning any discrepancies should they arise.
  20. Any incomplete act will not be eligible for any prize/award.
  21. The audio, video, and any other digital media provided to HSDC must be in good quality and working order.
  22. Prompting during a performance will result in a 20-point deduction. This must be brought to the attention of the HSDC management while it is occurring.
  23. All contestants and the schools explicitly grant permission to the management of HSDC, to use their photographs and videos in advertisements, posters, news media, Facebook, website, and other social media or to appear on local or National television to promote its competitions.
  24. A 5-point deduction will apply to any act that runs from 15 to 30 seconds over time, and a 10-point deduction may apply to any act that runs more than 30 seconds over time. Performance duration: Maximum 5 minutes, Minimum 3 minutes.
  25. Schools are subject to disqualification if the group limits are not met. Group Limit: Minimum 4 performers – Maximum 30 performers
  26. No correspondence will be entered into for any act with points deducted for overtime or any other reason.
  27. The school and teacher in charge will ensure that all participants adhere to all health and COVID-19-related guidelines and restrictions.
  28. Terms and conditions may change at any time, these changes will be communicated to all participants promptly. It is your responsibility to ensure these changes are observed and followed as required.
  29. A minimum of 30 HSDC tickets need to be sold by each participating group.

Disclaimer: Participants and schools hereby release all HSDC directors, officers, or representatives from any claims for damages or injuries sustained while participating in any activity related to this competition. By registering for the competition, we (the participating group) also understand all rules stated including time limits are taken care of, and there is no refund on entries.

We request all the participants to take utmost care towards themselves and their team (including social distancing) while rehearsing, purchasing any material for this competition, and creating the performance. We request all participating schools understand that we will act as per the restrictions placed by the Victorian Government, and if need be, HSDC can remain flexible by either canceling the event, postponing it, or conducting an online event. If the event is conducted online, please acknowledge that there will be an alternative registration process in which your school will have to reapply to participate in the competition. If any of these changes must be made, the HSDC team will be in contact with each school to update you as required.
