About HSDC

HSDC 2026

Empowering the Next Generation Through Dance

The High School Dance Competition (HSDC) is one of Australia’s most exciting and inclusive platforms for secondary school students to showcase their passion for dance, creativity, and teamwork. As a freestyle competition with a Bollywood foundation, HSDC celebrates cultural diversity and artistic expression, bringing together young performers from a wide range of backgrounds to share their stories through dance.

Since its launch in 2015, HSDC has grown into a highly anticipated annual event, inspiring hundreds of students to step beyond the classroom and onto a professional stage. What began as a dance competition has evolved into a vibrant movement that empowers young people through the performing arts and creates lasting memories for students, schools, and communities alike.

Expanding Across Australia and Beyond

From 2026, HSDC is open to high school students from Year 7 to Year 12 across all states and territories of Australia and beyond. Marking an exciting new chapter, HSDC is going international from 2026, welcoming schools from around the world to join this unique celebration of dance, culture, and creativity.

More Than a Competition

At its heart, HSDC is driven by a simple yet powerful vision: to nurture confidence, encourage cultural expression, and develop essential life skills in young people.

Through the process of rehearsing, collaborating, and performing, students gain far more than dance experience. They learn discipline, commitment, resilience, and creativity while building meaningful friendships and stronger connections with their peers and school communities.

Participation in HSDC helps students:

  • Build self-confidence and develop stage presence
  • Strengthen teamwork, communication, and leadership skills
  • Encourage creativity and self-expression
  • Foster a sense of belonging and school pride
  • Create lifelong memories and experiences beyond academics

Benefits for Schools and Teachers

HSDC provides schools with a unique opportunity to enhance student engagement, promote the performing arts, and showcase emerging talent on a large-scale cultural platform.

For teachers and coordinators, HSDC offers a structured yet flexible framework to support students in choreography, collaboration, and performance preparation, while encouraging participation from students of all skill levels and backgrounds.

Celebrating Every Performer

HSDC is not just about winning — it is about participation, growth, and celebrating individuality through dance. It is a platform where students discover their potential, schools come together as communities, and culture comes alive on stage.

Whether stepping into the spotlight for the first time or performing before a packed audience, every participant becomes part of an experience that inspires confidence, creativity, and connection.

This is more than a competition. This is HSDC.
